A recent report mentioned by TIME and BBC about dangerous levels of lead in rice imported to the United States from Thailand, India, Taiwan, China, and even Europe has been withdrawn because it was not passed through the proper peer review channels prior to being published. However, the consumers’ frenzy over the report continues. We have received a surge of customer inquiries regarding “Product of Origin”.
We live in a world that allows for the amazing distribution of food across countries and continents. We trust that our government has adequate and updated regulations to enforce suppliers’ compliance to protect us. The excitement over this recent study demonstrates again how fragile that trust is.
We, The Rice People, ensure product safety is accountable by routinely testing our products in Canadian labs. Our lab test reports completed in November 2012 confirmed that our products exceed all established safety and quality standards. We have also started testing all new crops we import to Canada and the results will be available on our website starting April 29thif you are interested in viewing them.
I, as the owner of The Rice People, am determined to ensure all our products are safe for my three children and my 85-year-old mother, and give proper value for their dollar.
